Conference “Moving the Italy That Works” a Concrete Forum for Discussion on Infrastructure and Transport

Rome, January 29, 2026

Today in Rome, at the Parlamentino di Confimprenditori, the conference “Moving the Italy That Works” took place—providing a concrete forum for discussion on infrastructure and transport as a structural driver of the country’s competitiveness.

As the Port Authority of Pisa – Navicelli Channel, we believe it is essential to bring the debate out of rhetoric and into operational reality: efficient infrastructure, clear governance, and timely decision-making are fundamental conditions for supporting businesses, employment, and the real economy.

We extend our thanks to President Stefano Ruvolo for the organization and pragmatic approach of the event; to Silvia Fregolent for her institutional contribution and focus on mobility and infrastructure development; and to our fellow board members for their high-level contributions:

• Roberto Cantiani, Board Member of ATAC, for his perspective on local public transport and urban integration;

• Angelo Valeriani, Board Member of ITA Airways, for his focus on national and international connectivity and the strategic role of aviation.

Dialogue among institutions, public decision-makers, and industrial governance is the most effective path to turning analysis into solutions, for the benefit of citizens and businesses. This is where operational decisions must begin—not announcements.

Port Authority of Pisa: Meeting with Industry and Nautical Sector Leaders to Discuss the Future of the Navicelli and the Obstruction at the Port of Livorno

Pisa, July 15, 2025

Today, the President of the Port Authority of Pisa, Mirko Benetti, met with the Vice President of the Pisa Industrial Union, Stefano Bottai, and the President of the Nautical Hub of Pisa, Claudio Rossi. The meeting, held in a spirit of full collaboration, served as a strategic discussion on two key issues for the region: the current obstruction at the Port of Livorno and the development prospects for the Navicelli Channel.

During the meeting, strong concern was expressed over the serious consequences the obstruction is causing to the operational continuity of the Port of Livorno, with inevitable repercussions on the industrial supply chain and the competitiveness of the regional nautical sector.

President Benetti reaffirmed the commitment of the Port Authority of Pisa to actively contribute to a swift and definitive resolution of the issue, in synergy with the competent authorities and the industrial stakeholders involved.

In parallel, the discussion focused on ongoing projects aimed at revitalizing the Navicelli area. “My intention,” stated Benetti, “is to expand and relaunch the Navicelli system by strengthening infrastructure and encouraging investments that enhance the nautical, industrial, and logistical vocation of our territory. We need an integrated, modern vision, one that begins with listening to and involving businesses and economic operators.”

PRESS RELEASE

PISA PORT AUTHORITY: STRONG OPPOSITION TO THE OBSTRUCTION OF THE NAVICELLI CHANNEL

Pisa, July 10, 2025

The President of the Pisa Port Authority, Dr. Mirko Benetti, expresses strong opposition and deep irritation regarding the current obstruction of the Navicelli Channel, which is compromising the full usability of the port infrastructure and the safety of navigation.

At a time when an important expansion and strategic relaunch plan for the Navicelli Channel is underway, any obstacle to free navigation is unacceptable and contrary to the public mission of the company, which prioritizes the development of the nautical industry, safety, and logistical efficiency.

In recent days, the President has engaged in direct discussions with all relevant parties, requesting prompt responses and concrete solutions. While awaiting the definition of a definitive structural solution, the Port Authority has already implemented a temporary and extraordinary limitation on channel access, in order to guarantee the minimum operational level and safety for all passing vessels.

“We need to return to normal as soon as possible, and the problem must be solved!
We cannot allow the work of the industry and the international reputation of the shipyards operating here to be called into question.”
– stated President Mirko Benetti.

The President also announced that, together with his counterpart from Livorno, Davide Gariglio, he is actively working to identify a swift and shared solution, in compliance with current regulations and ensuring the full functionality of the integrated port system.

The Pisa Port Authority reaffirms its ongoing commitment to protecting the public interest and will not tolerate any further conditions that could jeopardize the accessibility, functionality, or image of the Navicelli Channel.
